John Cuthbert Cleborne

The Navy Department has been informed that Captain Cuthbert John Cleborne, Supply Corps, US Navy, Retired, died in Berkeley, California, on October 14th

Captain Cleborne was born at the Navy Yard, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, September 19, 1876, and was appointed Assistant Paymaster in the Navy in 1899. He served on the Asiatic Station from 1900 until 1904 and, after duty at the Norfolk Navy Yard, was ordered to the Naval Station, Olongapo, Philippine Islands in 1913. He was attached to the USS Oregon, Puget Sound Navy Yard, 1915, and was transferred to Mare Island Navy Yard later that year. In 1918, he was assigned letter of commendation by the Navy Department for that service. In 1919, he became Supply Officer, Mare Island, Navy Yard, in 1923 he was appointed Aide on the Staff of Commander Fleet Base Force and Fleet Supply Officer and from 1925 until 1928 was in charge of the Naval Supply Depot, San Diego, with additional duty as Supply Officer, 11th Naval District. He was Supply Officer, Navy Yard, Portsmouth, N.H., from 1928 until 1932 when he was ordered to similar duty at Mare Island Navy Yard. On June 1, 1937, he retired from active duty.

He received the following service medals:

Philippine Campaign Medal- Service in USS Nashville, 1900

China Relief Expedition Medal- Service in USS Nashville, 1900

Cuban Pacification Medal- Service in USS Alabama, 1907

Victory Medal- World War Service.
