Frederick Lowell Eversole

Fredrick Lowell Eversole was born in Stafford, Kansa, on March 14, 1917, son of Evert A. and Allie May (Hughes) Eversole. He attended Dodge City (Kansas) Junior High School and during the period August 1934 to February 1939 was a member of the Kansas National Guard. On February 23, 1939 he enlisted, as an Apprentice Seaman, at the Naval Recruiting Station, Kansas City, Kansas. He was advanced through the ratings Seaman and Aviation Metalsmith to Aviation Pilot first class and on June 1, 1943 was appointed Chief Aviation Pilot (rate changed to Chief Aviation Structural Mechanic Naval Aviation Pilot on April 2, 1948). He was commissioned Ensign in the US Navy on July 2, 1955 and subsequently advanced to Lieutenant (junior grade), January 2, 1957 and to Lieutenant, to date from August 1, 1959.

After enlisting in the US Navy in February 1939 he had two months recruit training at the Naval Training Station, Great lakes, Illinois and in April reported for instruction at the Metalworker School “B”, Naval Training Station, Norfolk, Virginia. He continued instruction, November 1939 to April 1940, at the Aviation Metalsmith School, Naval Training Station, Norfolk, then was assigned as Assembly and repair Metalsmith at the Naval Air Station, San Diego, California.

On July 10, 1941 he became a student Naval Aviation Pilot and had flight training at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida. Designated Naval Aviation Pilot on February 2, 1942, he next served as Assistant Navigation Officer with Patrol Squadron 81. He was Utility Pilot with Headquarters Squadron 11, based at San Juan, Puerto Rico, from April 1943 to June 1944, when he transferred to Headquarters Squadron 11, Detachment Azores. He continued to serve in that capacity until March 1946 and in May that year was assigned as Communication Officer with Fleet Airborne Electronics Training Unit, Atlantic, with headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia.

He served as Operations Pilot at the Naval Station, Patuxent River, Maryland, from May 1948 to August 1950, when he joined Patrol Squadron 3 as Assistant to the Operations Officer. In October 1951 he reported as Student Schedules Officer with Fleet Airborne Electronics Training Unit, Atlantic and in September 1953 was assigned as Staff Pilot on the staff of Commander Naval Air Force, Atlantic. Since October 1955 he has been Assistant Flight Officer at the Naval Air Station, Anacostia, DC.

Lieutenant Eversole has the Good Conduct Medal (enlisted service); American Defense Service Medal; American Campaign Medal; European- African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal; World War II Victory Medal; and the National Defense Service Medal.

He died December 8, 1997.
