Training the Warfighter
Marines at the Marine Corps Civil-Military Operations School in Quantico, Virginia, learn basic wet handling tips and techniques during the hands-on portion of cultural heritage training.
The NHHC Conservation Branch trains United States Navy Sailors and Marines in surveying, documenting, and basic handling of heritage sites and objects in crisis situations such as natural disasters and post-conflict operations. Our initial offering in Spring 2017 was a classroom training and multiday integrated civil-military operations exercise with the Marines of 2nd Civil Affairs Group.
Since 2017, we have trained U.S. Marines and foreign exchange military at the Marine Corps Civil Military Operations School 3-4 times per year. We also developed a simulated museum environment at our facility in Richmond, Virginia, to offer our classroom and practical experience to U.S. Navy reservists enrolled in Naval History and Heritage Command’s fleet historian training course.
