Thank you for your interest in donating to the Navy Art Collection, Naval History and Heritage Command. Navy Art: Donation Requirements and Procedures

The Navy Art Collection welcomes donations of artwork such as paintings, watercolors, drawings, and engravings.

In order to consider the donation, please submit the following information:

  • origin or provenance

  • title

  • medium

  • size

  • condition

  • any other relevant material

  • a digital image to NHHC_NavyArt@us.navy.mil

No donation will be evaluated without an image of each artwork.

Navy Art does not accept any donation with copyright restrictions.

Upon receiving the information, the staff will consider the donation as it relates to the existing collection, future development and the ability to care for the object once it is accepted. Please be advised that it will be donor’s responsibility to pay any shipping cost associated with the donation.

Upon acceptance of the donation by the Navy Art Collection, the donor will need to complete a Deed of Gift form that transfers ownership to the U.S. Navy. Any appraisal of the object for tax purposes will need to be finalized by the donor prior to the donation. Navy Art will not provide this service. After receiving the object and Deed of Gift, the form will be countersigned and a copy returned to the donor. The object then becomes the property of the U.S. government.

Navy Art does not guarantee the display of any donation now or in the future.
