Charles Leo Glandore Evans

Born Hampshire, England, 2nd August 1908. Only son of Major S.G. Evans, M.C., Grandson of general Leopold Evans and Colonel John Crosbie.

Educated Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.

Continuously in Royal Navy since 1922. Specialized as an Aviation Pilot in 1929 and employed as a Pilot in subsequent appointments.

Married in April 1941, to Kyriakoula Doulcaris, daughter of General Doulcaris of Athens, Greece, at Alexandria, Egypt.

Served at US Naval Air Station, Miami, as resident British Instructor, September 1941 to August 1942, and then British Admiralty Delegation, Washington, as Superintendent of British Air Training in U.S.A. During this time was also on the staff of Chief of Naval Air Operational Training, USN.

Operational war service as an Aviator in following spheres:

ATLANTIC, Fighter Command R.A.F. Norway, 1940

Dunkirk, Mediterranean, Western Desert, Norway, 1945.

PACIFIC, with US 5th Fleet, served in Aircraft Carriers

ILLUSTRIOUS, FORMIDABLE, EAGLE and IMPLACEABLE during war.

Distinguished Service Order, Distinguished Service Cross, mentioned in Dispatches three times.

Present appointment as Naval Air Attaché and Assistant Naval Attaché, British Embassy.
