Everett Eynon

Everett Eynon was born on December 28, 1906, in Washington, DC, son of Edward B. Eynon, Jr., and Mrs. Edna Greene (Ricketts) Eynon. He attended Western High School, Devitt Preparatory School, both in Washington, and Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island (1925- 1929).

After graduating from college, he was associated with Shannon and Luchs, Realtors and the insurance firms of Wolf and Cohen, Inc., and Crowley and Marr, all in Washington, DC. For two years he was a Special Agent with Division of Investigation (Oil Enforcement and Public Works Administration). He spent one year in Puerto Rico with the Puerto Rico Reconstruction Administration and was subsequently employed for two years in the Mortgage Department of the Industrial Trust Company, Providence, Rhode Island. Prior to entering the naval service he worked for the Paving Supply and Equipment Company of Washington, DC., and Baltimore, Maryland.

Commissioned a Lieutenant in the US Naval Reserve on May 8, 1942, he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander on October 17, 1944, and to Commander, to date November 30, 1945.

Upon receiving his appointment in the Naval Reserve in 1942, he had indoctrination at Quonset Pilot, Rhode Island, until August 1942, when he was assigned to Patrol Squadron TWENTY THREE. During November and December of the same year he served on the staff of Commander Fleet Air Wing TWO, and following duty on the staff of Commander Fleet Air, Noumea, reported in March 1943, as Flag Secretary on the staff of Commander Air, Solomon Islands. There his duties included the obtaining and distribution of provisions and equipment for the Headquarters Camp and the supervision of air transportation priorities in that area as well as the manifold duties of Flag Secretary. For outstanding service while in that later assignment, he received a Letter of Commendation with authorization to wear the Commendation Ribbon.

Transferred in July 1943 to the staff of Commander Fleet Air, West Coast, he continued staff duty until March 1944. Following a two year assignment in the office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Navy Department, Washington, DC, he reported in March 1946 for duty on the staff of the Commander EIGHTH Fleet. In September 1946 he joined the staff of Commander in Chief, Pacific, and upon his return to the United States in March 1947 became Aide to the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Air. He served in the latter assignments until January 1950, when he was relieved of all active duty.

Ordered to return to active military service the next month, he was again assigned to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, when he remained until April 1951. He the reported for duty in the Office of Deputy Chief of the Bureau of Aeronautics as Assistant to the Head of the Executive Office.

In addition to the Commendation Ribbon, Commander Eynon has the American Campaign Medal: the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal; and the World War II Victory Medal.
