Lloyd Gordon Findley was born in Seattle, Washington, on March 8, 1907, son of Judge Howard M. Findley and the late Mrs. Findley. He received his education from Seattle schools and the State College of Washington, at Pullman, Washington, and in civil life was engaged as a Real Estate Brooker in Seattle. He was commissioned Lieutenant (junior grade) in the US Naval Reserve on July, 1941, and on September 1, 1941, began active duty. His promotions are as follows: Lieutenant, July 1, 1942: Lieutenant Commander, October 1, 1944; Commander, November 5, 1945; and Captain, to date from July 1, 1957.
Reporting for active duty on September 1, 1941, he had two months instruction at the Naval Intelligence School, Navy Department, Washington, DC, then served in the Intelligence Office, Thirteenth Naval District, Seattle, Washington, until April 1942, as an Agent. Designated Inspector, he remained in Seattle, attached the Thirteenth Naval District Security Office, until October 1, 1943, and for a year thereafter served as Security Officer at the Puget Sound Navy Yard, Bremerton, Washington.
During the later period of World War II he completed the course at the Military Government School, Princeton, New Jersey (11/44 to 2/45), and was in training in the Civil Affairs Staging Area, Presidio, Monterey, California. He then left the West Coast for the Marianas on October 1, 1945, as Executive Officer of the US Naval Military Government Unit, Saipan, Marianas Islands, and from January 1, 1946 until May 7, 1947, served as Commanding Officer of that Unit. He served as an instructor at the School of Naval Administration, Stanford University, Stanford, California, during the period July 1, 1947, until August 25, 1948, and for five years thereafter served on the staff of the Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet, as Island Government Officer and Travel Clearance Officer.
On November 10, 1953, he reported to the Navy Department, Washington, DC, for a tour of duty as Military Government Officer in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OP-215). Following another assignment on the Staff of the Commander in Chief, Pacific Fleet, he was transferred on June 19, 1957, to the Joint Staff of the Commander in Chief, Pacific, his current assignment.
Captain Findley has the American Defense Service Medal; American Campaign Medal; World War II Victory Medal; National Defense Service Medal; and the Naval Reserve Medal.
