Frank Eugene Adams

Frank Eugene Adams was born in Commerce, Georgia, on 12 December 1915, son of Franklin Hogan and Burice Eugenia (Prickett) Adams. He received the degree of Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Piedmont College, Demorest, Georgia, and was subsequently employed for four years as a Chemist for Monsanto Chemical Company, Anniston, Alabama. On 12 April 1941 he enlisted in the US Naval Reserve and on 12 June 1941 his enlistment was terminated to accept an appointment as Aviation Cadet. Commissioned Ensign in the Naval Reserve to date from 16 October 1941, he subsequently advanced in rank, attaining that of Commander, to date from 1 February 1954.

Following his appointment in the Naval Reserve in 1941, he had flight training at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida, and on 26 January 1942 was designated Naval Aviator. He remained at the Pensacola Air Station as an Instructor until September 1943, after which he served for two months with Utility Squadron FOUR. In November 1943 he transferred to Utility Squadron SIXTEEN, and in September 1945 was assigned to the US Naval Personnel Separation Center, Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida, for separation processing.

While on terminal leave, he was ordered to return to active Naval Service, and in November 1945 reported to the Commandant Sixth Naval District, Charleston, South Carolina. The next month he was assigned to the Naval Air Facility, Naval Air Station, Gainesville, Georgia, and in April 1946 joined USS Gardiners Bay for instruction. On 14 August 1946 he became Navigator of that seaplane tender and a month later was detached and ordered to the Naval Air Station, Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, New York, where he remained until September 1949.

From October 1949 to October 1952, he had duty in connection with the Naval Air Reserve Training Program, attached to the Naval Air Reserve Training Unit, Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida. He then served as Head of the Officer Candidate Section, Bureau of Naval Personnel, Navy Department, Washington, DC. On 13 September 1955 he received orders to report for an eighteen week course in Air Intelligence at the Naval School, Naval Intelligence Naval Receiving Station, Washington. Upon the completion of his instruction, he was further ordered to duty on the staff of Commander Carrier Division THREE.

Commander Adams had the Naval Reserve Medal; the American Defense Service Medal; American Campaign Medal; World War II Victory Medal; Navy Occupation Service Medal, Asia Clasp; China Service Medal; and the National Defense Service Medal.
