Edward L. Bennett

Lieutenant Bennett was born on April 15, 1911, in Peru, Indiana. He enlisted in the US Navy on September 27, 1928, serving as an enlisted man until August 15, 1942, when he accepted an appointment as an Acting Pay Clerk in the Supply Corps of the US Navy. Thereafter he advanced in grade to that of Lieutenant to date from April 1, 1946.

Following his appointment in the Supply Corps in 1942, Lieutenant Bennett served between August and November of that year in USS Mackinac. Detached from that vessel he had duty with the Supply Officer in connection with fitting out USS Baffins (named changed to USS Ameer) at the Seattle-Tacoma Shipbuilding Corporations, Seattle, Washington. Upon her commissioning, on June 28, 1943, he reported aboard for a month’s service, and in July 1943, had duty in connection with the commissioning and fitting out of USS Mission Bay. After her commissioning on September 13, 1948, he joined that carrier escort.

From September 1945 to April 1947, Lieutenant Bennett served as Assistant to the Supply Officer, with additional duty as Clothing Officer, at Naval Air Station, Seattle, Washington. Thereafter he had a six months’ assignment at the Naval Air Station, Moffett Field, California, reporting in December 1947 for duty with Fleet Air Wing ELEVEN, as Supply Officer, with duty inspecting Naval Operating Bases, his present assignment.

Lieutenant Bennett has the American Defense Service Medal; the American Campaign Medal; the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal; and the World War II Victory Medal.
