Personal Papers & Donated Collections

Personal papers collections and donated collections are those that fall outside of the definition of operational records.  Operational records are official records of the U. S., created by offices within the Department of the Navy, and typically transferred directly by the creating office to the NHHC Archives.  Personal papers and donated collections document the history of the U. S. Navy and have typically been donated to the NHHC Archives by private citizens or organizations.  While these collections may contain materials created by Navy personnel in the course of their work, the materials are not considered official or operational records of the U. S. Navy.

Please note: the collections listed here are only a portion of the personal papers collections and donated collections maintained at the NHHC Archives.
