The Richard Leopold Papers (1943-1945 and 1989) contain fifty letters (copies) written between June 8, 1943-Dec.11, 1945. Leopold was a junior officer in the Office of Naval Research (ONR), and corresponded with John Kemble, a friend and fellow officer also associated with the ONR.

The bulk of their correspondence is concerned with their experience within the ONR, other Navy personnel, and other personal observations and comments. Two additional letters dated April 6 and May 5, 1989 are correspondence between Leopold (now a PhD associated with Northwestern University) and Dr. Dean Allard, Senior Historian of the Naval Historical Center.

Their correspondence relates to former associates and the use of sound records.
