Orr, Glenn R. Papers

Dates: 1919

Collection Number: COLL/233

Finding aid (Word)

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains several items kept by Glenn Orr during his service as a radio operator in World War I. Orr served on USS Harding from its commissioning. Harding took part in ceremonies welcoming President Woodrow Wilson back to the United States following the Versailles Conference and as a guardian for the famous NC seaplane Atlantic crossing in 1919. A compilation of his letters home, "Aboard the Harding (DD-91)," was created by his nephew, Clint Orr, by deleting personal and family comments, leaving information on events and shipboard activities. Also included in the collection are several notebooks from his radio training.

Preferred Citation
