Biographical Note

Ralph Hugh Donovan was born in New York City in 1901. He enlisted in the Navy in February 1919, retiring in 1949 with the rank of Lieutenant (jg). He was awarded the Legion of Merit in 1943.


Scope and Content Note 

This collection contains four scrapbooks consisting chiefly of photographs from Donovan's Navy service. There are numerous photographs of crewmates and Navy personnel, various Navy and commercial ships, and places that Donovan visited.

The collection was donated to the Naval Historical Center (now the Naval History and Heritage Command) by Ralph Donovan in memory of Gary R. Smith.
