Scope and Content Note
The USS LCS(L)(3) Association was formed in 1987 to promote and cultivate fellowship among the veterans of World War II who manned the "Little Ships" known formally as USS LCS(L)(3) ships of the U.S. Navy. In 1989 the historical materials of the Association were transferred to the Naval Historical Center. The collection dates from the World War II period to the present and is comprised of historical materials relating to the National Association of USS LCS(L)(3) 1-130 and naval operations of LCS(L)(3) ships during World War II. The bulk of the collection is comprised of files on individual LCS(L) ships. This material is arranged in ship order and includes reminiscences of crewmembers, crew lists, ships' histories, war diary and action report extracts, ship newsletters, and photographs. There also are lists of crewmembers for the individual LCS(L) ships and flotillas and group flagships. The collection also includes subject files, information on U.S. Navy amphibious training facilities, and printed material. The photographic documentation of LCS(L)(3) ships and crewmembers is also quite extensive.
