Scope and Content Note

Rear Admiral Spencer Wood's career included duty with the Asiatic Fleet from 1889 to 1891 and in the Hawaiian area in 1893 and 1894. He commanded USS Dupont during the Spanish-American War, and from 1905 to 1908 was aide to Admiral of the Navy George Dewey. He was commanding officer of several battleships, spent two years as a member of the General Board between 1915 and 1917, was Commandant of the First Naval District in 1918-1919, and served as Commander Cruiser Division One operating in the Honduras area during 1920 and 1921.

This collection consists of personal journals maintained by Wood throughout his naval career and following his retirement in 1921. In addition to a narrative of his activities, these journals include some press clippings and correspondence.
