Biographical Note

Captain Flave J. George was commanding officer of USS CatalpaMajabaPawneeChain, and Vesuvius during World War II. He served as port captain on Guadalcanal between his ship tours and also conducted a salvage operation on Racife.


Scope and Content Note

The collection includes Captain George's diaries while commanding USS CatalpaMajabaPawneeChain, and Vesuvius; letters; and a scrapbook kept on Vesuvius describing the ship's commissioning, shakedown, operations off Okinawa, the Philippines, and Japan, and photographs of the ship and crew.
