Scope and Content Notes

These papers represent official files collected by Admiral Aurand during the last ten years of his active duty naval career. In this era, the Admiral commanded two major anti-submarine warfare forces and was assigned to duties involving the analysis of ASW and other types of warfare. His specific billets included: 

1. - Staff, Office of Navy Program Planning, 1962-1965

2. - Commander, Anti-Submarine Warfare Group 1, 1965-1967

3. - Director, Long Range Objectives Group, 1967-1969

4. - Commander, Anti-Submarine Warfare Force, Pacific, 1969-1972 

Admiral Aurand retired in October 1972. 

Another group of Admiral Aurand’s papers, which relates primarily to his duty as Naval Aide to the President, 1957-1961, is deposited in the Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene, Kansas.
