Biographical Note

Samuel Griffin was a junior officer in the U.S. Navy and later commanded a merchant vessel.


Scope and Content Note

This is a collection of journals and other papers of Captain Samuel P. Griffin during his career as a naval and merchant marine officer. It provides a full record of Griffin's career, which began as a junior officer in the U.S. Navy in the 1840s and concluded as the master of a merchant ship in the 1880s.
