Scope and Content Note

This collection of historical materials relating to the Preble Family includes letters detailing Edward Preble's service on USS Kearsarge during the Civil War, including an account of the sinking of the CSS Alabama; newspaper articles on the naval career of Commodore Edward Preble and his relationship to USS Constitution; correspondence with Rear Admiral Dundas Preble Tucker, great-great grandson of Commodore Preble concerning the writing of Commodore Preble's biography; copies of the Boston Gazette from 1810; photographs of various relics from USS Constitution; newspaper articles on recommissioning of USS Constitution and efforts to restore the ship; minutes and roster of the Old Ironsides Descendant's Committee, dedicated to restoring USS Constitution; and miscellany relating to the Preble Family and USS Constitution.
