Scope and Content Notes

Lieutenant Swent served in naval amphibious forces in the Mediterranean Theater during World War II. He served initially as officer-in-charge of an LCT (Landing Craft Tank), and later as commander of a flotilla of LCTs. He participated in initial landings in Sicily, Salerno, Anzio, and Southern France, and in beachhead supply operations subsequent to each of the initial landings. 

Swent's diary provides detailed entries from January 1, 1943 through 25 September 1944 during his duties in the naval amphibious forces in the Mediterranean Theater as officer-in-charge of an LCT (Landing Craft Tank), and later as commander of a flotilla of LCTs. He participated in initial landings in Sicily, Salerno, Anzio, and Southern France, and in beachhead supply operations subsequent to each of the initial landings. Swent includes day-to-day activities at both shore duty and aboard ship. The also diary includes a biography that covers the period 1916-1992.
