Scope and Content Notes

These papers relate to the naval service of Lieutenant Vernon C. Squires, USNR who was on active duty in the reserves during World War II. These 1 feet of documents consists of biographical data, correspondence, orders, certificates, maps, and printed material. The collection includes approximately 80 letters to member of his family during his time in England, France, transiting to the Pacific aboard USS Iowa, the Japanese surrender, and in Tokyo Bay. Of particular note are letters regarding D-Day.
