Biographical Note

Vice Admiral, U.S. Navy. Born in San Francisco, California, Albert Baciocco graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1953. He attended Submarine School in 1955 and served on USS Wahoo before being selected for the nuclear power program in 1957. He served on USS Scorpion and was executive officer on USS Barb before becoming commanding officer of USS Gato in June 1965. In July 1969, he assumed command of Submarine Division 42 and subsequently had duty in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations and Assistant Secretary of the Navy. From 1981 to 1983, he was Commander Submarine Group 6, and following promotion to Vice Admiral in 1983 served as Director Research, Development, and Acquisition in the Chief of Naval Operations. Baciocco was transferred to the retired list in April 1987.

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains the official files of Vice Admiral Bocaccio, who was involved with naval technology relating to satellite systems, oceanographic technologic matters, and related Department of Defense programs. He was also interested in manpower allocation to staff science/technology positions.
