Scope and Content Note

This collection is arranged in five folders. The first folder contains official documents, arranged in chronological order, and photographs. In the second folder are Captain Hamlin's report on his time as a POW from 1 March 1942 to 29 August 1945, his War Crimes Affidavit, a statement regarding the treatment of POWs and conditions at the camps, information and correspondence on the trial of war criminals, and lists of survivors from the USS Houston.

The third folder contains correspondence and information regarding claims by former POWs and their families. Letters from the families of POWs seeking information about their relatives' internment and death are in the fourth folder. This section is arranged in alphabetical order by sender.

The fifth folder contains letters sent by Hamlin to the families of POWs who died during their internment or who were missing after the sinking of Houston. This folder is arranged in alphabetical order by the serviceman's name.
