Scope and Content Note

This collection is arranged into four folders. The first folder contains official correspondence including information regarding Lieutenant Lloyd Gurnett's service on USS Samuel B. Roberts and his efforts to name a ship after his former commanding officer, Robert W. Copeland.

In the second folder are newspaper clippings dated November 1944 concerning the sinking of Samuel B. Roberts as well as personal correspondence regarding the death of Robert Copeland. Finally, the third folder contains various awards and commendations. The fourth folder contains a Combined Action Report, Surface Engagement off Sambar, Philippine Islands, and Report of Loss of Samuel B. Roberts (DE-413).
