Scope and Content Note

This historical collection consists of a scrapbook and an official naval photograph concerning Seaman Second Class Sardella’s naval experience as a WAVE from 1944 to 1945.  The collection is comprised of scrapbook, cards, postcards, letters, information on training, and orders for duty stations, maps for duty stations, pressed flowers, handouts and pamphlets from places she visited, and newspaper clippings.

Biography

Seaman Second Class Sardella entered the United States Navy Reserves on December 28, 1944.  She left her home in Massachusetts and reported to the Naval Officer Procurement Office in Boston.  She completed her basic enlisted training at the Naval Training Station Bronx, New York 63 (W.R.), Regiment 49, Building R6.  On March 5, 1945 she reported to the Commanding Officer of Naval Barracks, Washington, D.C., Commandant Potomac River Naval Command (COMDT.PRNC).  On March 21, 1945 she was assigned to the Naval Research Laboratory, Anacostia, D.C. as a seaman second class.
