Scope and Content Note

This collection contains the personal memoirs of Rear Admiral Kemp Tolley regarding his command of USS Lanikai during 1941-1942. Later in 1942, RADM Tolley was assigned to the U.S. Mission in Moscow as Assistant Naval Attaché, which is reflected in his correspondence during 1942-1943. Also included is the daily diary of A. W. Ashbrook, Commander of USS Mindanao on the South China Patrol and his successor, Commander G. C. Logan, during the 23 April-18 June 1929 period. Other items include a monograph (April 1965), several fragmentary letters, and a brief paper called "Origins of Spanish Gunboat Names."
