Scope and Content

This collection contains record culled from the area files of the Chief of Naval Operations Flag Plot Office.  The bulk of the records relate to naval operations in the South Asia Theater and the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam).  The principal topic of the collection is military operations in the Southeast Asian Theater. The majority of the records were created during the height of direct United States military operations in the Republic of Vietnam. Portions of the collection relate specifically to other areas of Southeast Asia, Korea and U.S. military operations world-wide.

Open to the public but many records remain classified or are awaiting a “referral review by other agencies”.

Classification

The collection had an initial “Declassification Review” followed by an OSD/EUCOM in 2003 and Kyl-Lott review in 2007-2008. Many of the records remain classified or have been referred to other agencies for final review.
