Scope and Content Note

This division was concerned with the establishment and maintenance of foreign-based installations of the U.S. Navy. The records include general correspondence, brief histories of overseas bases, data on the shipment of functional components, the activities of construction battalions, and various specialized base maintenance units operating in the field. Additionally there are charts and photographs of bases, and a set of the division's Current Summary of U.S. Naval Overseas Bases (1943-1957). The records were received in disarrangement and were organized into various series by the Archives. A detailed checklist is available.
