Collection Overview

DET 206 reservist CAPT Steve Horowitz deployed to London, United Kingdom in November 2001 to document the experiences of United States Navy personnel serving overseas at the time of the attacks on 11 September 2001.  The reservist’s mission also included documenting the changes in United States naval operations overseas in response to the attacks and in the first months of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). CAPT Horowitz conducted interviews with most of the CINCUSNAVEUR leadership, including the Deputy Commander in Chief (DCINC) and most of the deputy chiefs of staff (DCOS) of the N-code offices.  In addition to conducting oral histories, CAPT Horowitz also gathered historical materials documenting the organizational structure of CINCUSNAVEUR as well as materials documenting the memorials that were conducted in London following the attacks.
