To all who shall see these presents, greeting: 

Know Ye, that in recognition of personal interest shown and outstanding support 
given the establishement of the U.S.S. North Carolina Battleship as a permanent
memorial honoring those noble men and women of North Carolina and our Nation who died, 
and those who served, in the defense of the United States, during World War II, and 

Reposing special Trust and Confidence in the Patriotism, Valor, Fidelity and Abilities 
of this Citizen, I do hereby appoint 

Arleigh A. Burke 

an Admiral 
in the North Carolina Navy 

This Commission is an expression of appreciation from the State of North Carolina 
and all its people for services rendered in making it possible to bring this great ship home 
to North Carolina. The rights and privileges of this rank include free admission to the Battle- 
ship Memorial at Wilmington, North Carolina.
