Images of John Backus manuscript journal

Contemporary journal kept on board the U.S. privateer Saratoga, 16 November 1812 through 2 March 1813. Includes first person accounts of taking the British brig Rachel on 12 December 1812, the British ship Nelson on 31 January 1813, and a "King's Cutter" after a bloody battle on 9 February 1813. Journal was kept in a ledger book printed by Edmund Blunt. This journal has not been transcribed and is for in Library use only.
