Sir
I have to acknowledge the receipt of your
letter soliciting a Midshipman's appointment
for your son Charles W. Morris and in reply to
remark that although there are now more than
are required for the service, yet in consideration of
the good character of the son and gallant services
of the Father, the application in the present instance
cannot be resisted. You will therefore receive
herewith an appointment for your son as an Acting
Midshipman with a copy of the oath to be taken
by him and returned to this Department with his
letter of acceptance.
