Destroyer Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet 

To all who shall see these presents, Greetings: 

Know ye, that reposing special trust and confidence in the experience and abilities of 

Admiral Arleigh A. Burke, U.S. Navy 

who has maintained continuing love and esteem for, and shown the proper great amount of regard toward Destroyers, 
I do herewith appoint him, by and with the consent of the officers and men of the aforesaid force, an 

Honorary Member 
Destroyer Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet 

Know ye throughout the United States Navy that the aforementioned member is entitled to all the privileges of destroyer 
sailors afloat, and I do strictly charge and require all of them to heed his counsel and advice, knowing that he will diligently 
discharge his duties of this office which consist of keeping the best interests of the Destroyer Force at heart. 

Done aboard the Atlantic Fleet Destroyer Force Flagship, on this 17th day of June, in the year 
of Our Lord, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Fifty-five.
