Scope and Content Note

This collection contains the personal and business files of Benson Dutton and date from his early years to his professional life in the civil engineering field. His time as an instructor to black sailors at Hampton Institute during World War II is documented as well.

His postwar activities in education are also included. The collection contains business/personal correspondence, a biographical file, yearbooks of school and college life, and his contributions to the civil engineering profession and civic accomplishments.
