Scope and Content Note

This collection was brought about by Rear Admiral John D. H. Kane, Jr. and Rear Admiral Kemp Tolley who worked to gain recognition for the Navy's historic role in China. As a result of their efforts, the China Repository was established within the Naval Historical Center in 1978. The collection is comprised of personal correspondence, diaries, photographs, and memorabilia donated by former naval personnel and others who served in the Far East, including service with the Yangtze Patrol.

China Repository photographs are held in the Photographic Section, and books are held by the Navy Department Library.
