Civil War Times Illustrated
Collection, 1861-1865

The Civil War Times Illustrated collection includes a large collection of purely Civil War letters, diaries, and various accounts from every theater and from hundreds of units. These are mostly copies of documents with some originals. The collections are arranged alphabetically by the name of the soldier. Both Union and Confederate soldiers are represented, although the Confederates are particularly well represented. This collection came to Military History Institute through the good offices of Civil War Times Illustrated; however, most of the source materials have not been published in the magazine.
