Yulee, David L.
Papers, 1842-1920
David Levy Yulee was a businessman, entrepreneur, and U.S. Senator from Florida. Born David Levy in St. Thomas, West Indies, he moved to St. Augustine, Florida in 1821. Educated in Norfolk, Virginia, he studied law in St. Augustine and was admitted to the bar in 1836. Yulee was Chairman of the Senate Naval Affairs Committee from 1847 to 1851, and was later President of the Atlantic and Gulf/Florida Railroad.
The collection includes miscellaneous correspondence relating to Yulee's activities as territorial delegate of Congress (1841-1845), U.S. Senator from Florida (1845-1851, 1855-1861), and member of the Confederate Congress.
