The Maryland State Archives includes among its holdings the personal papers of Captain Samuel Smith, 1776; Captain John David, 1777; Captain Thomas Conway, 1777; Captain Ignatius Taylor of the Sloop Molly, 1777; and Richard Smith, Sergeant in the Marines on Conqueror. Other items relating to naval history include scattered financial, political, and military material dealing with the Revolutionary War, particularly in the Annapolis area; records of the Continental Admiralty Board, 1776; articles of seamen on board Resolution, 1776; letters in various collections pertaining to military action during the War of 1812; letters of Captain Charles Gordon, Commander of USS Constellation, 1815-1816; Enrollment and Muster Rolls, U.S. Navy, 1864-1873; Muster Pay and Receipt Rolls, 1st Maryland Naval Battalion, Maryland National Guard, 1896; and records of the Maryland Naval Brigade at Camp Smith, 1901.
