Primarily holograph letters (1862-1864) from William Henry Campbell, acting assistant surgeon on board USS Commodore McDonough during the Civil War, to his wife Mary Upham Campbell, Watertown, Massachusetts. Stationed most of the time in South Carolina, Campbell related what he observed of plantation and military life.
