Greenleaf Family
Papers, 1748-1852
Ten volumes of ledgers, invoices and account books spanning the years 1753-1777 show John Greenleaf to have been the leading druggist in Boston. The records indicate receipt of supplies from England and purchase by local physicians, including Joseph Warren; Greenleaf also supplied medicine to the Continental Navy. Papers of Thomas Greenleaf consist of commissions as Justice of the Peace, 1814-1848, a certificate from the Mass. Humane Society, 1785, and a receipt for tuition to Harvard, 1781. Thomas seems to have served as trustee for James Greenleaf upon the dissolution of the North American Land Company. This group of papers records the transfer of large tracts of land in the western frontier regions of Virginia and Pennsylvania. Some of the deeds contain surveys and descriptions of the property transferred.

Hull, Isaac
Papers, 1810-1842
This is the most extensive collection of documents relative to the career of Isaac Hull and his many years service in the U.S. Navy. The papers span the years 1810 to 1842 and include letters and letter-books, ledgers and account books, log books and ships papers, legal records and official reports, meteorological observations and sundry printed matter. Some of the more interesting documents were published in Commodore Hull: Papers of Isaac Hull (Boston, 1929). The bulk of the collection falls around 1840, during his period of service in the Mediterranean, when he had command of Ohio, Cyane, Brandywine and Preble. Of great importance are the many letters from officials in Washington and U.S. consuls overseas, including William Tudor, Obadiah Rich and Hosea Sprague, which give a good account of political and military conditions at home and abroad.
