Niblack, Albert P.

Niblack was a native of Vincennes, Knox County, Indiana; an officer in the U.S. Navy (1880-1923), serving in the Spanish-American War in Cuba and the Philippines (1898-1901), and as a naval attaché to the American Legation in Buenos Aires, Argentina (1910-1911), and Berlin, Germany (1911-1913); and reached the rank of Rear Admiral (1917). The collection is primarily composed of Niblack's orders, communications, commendations, and other papers relating to his career in the Navy (1880-1923). There are no personal papers. Also included are the papers of Niblack's father, William E. Niblack, a Vincennes politician and Democratic member of Congress (1857-1861), consisting of his commissions, appointments, and other official documents (1843-1882), and two letters written by Niblack to the U.S. Attorney General Jeremiah Black regarding the appointment of a district attorney in Indiana (1857-1858). Correspondents include George Dewey, John Long, and W.H. Moody.
