Hudson, William L.
Papers, 1838-1840

Journal of William L. Hudson, commanding U.S. Ship Peacock, one of the vessels attached to the South Sea Surveying and Exploring Expedition under the command of Charles Wilkes.  Hudson was second in command under Wilkes, and commander of the fleet's second largest ship, USS Peacock.

The first volume, 18 August 1838-11 August 1840, called Journal number 1, is in the Museum's collections.  The second volume, 11 August 1840-19 February 1842, called Journal number 2, is held by the Southern Historical Collection at the University of North Carolina.  The Museum has a microfilm of both volumes.
