Colloquium on Contemporary History 1989-1998

Burton Cazden Collection: ship attempting to break through the ice.

Presented here are selected proceedings of the Colloquium on Contemporary History, a conference series sponsored by the Naval History and Heritage Command from 1989 to 1998. During those years, the Command published five of the colloquium proceedings in booklet form. Papers from all eleven conferences are available online.

The goal of the Colloquium program was to promote the study of post-World War II national security issues by providing a forum for the exchange of new interpretations, approaches, and information. Another object was to foster the establishment and nourishment of lasting professional contacts among naval and military historians, political scientists, service members, and others interested in the momentous events and developments of the Cold War.
