Brown leather flight jacket given to Admiral James L. Holloway, III. Jacket has fur collar with wool waistband and cuffs. Metal zipper closure. Two waist pockets on the obverse with brown plastic button closures. Tag inside jacket reads // Jacket, Flying, Man's / Intermediate, Type G-1 / Size 40 // On the proper left chest is a leather patch stamped with naval aviator wings above // J.L. Holloway III / RADM U.S. Navy //
There are four patches on the front of the jacket, one on each shoulder, and four on the reverse. On the proper right chest is a patch from USS Enterprise (CVAN-65). On the proper left chest is a patch from Attack Squadron 35 (VA-35) nicknamed the Black Panthers. On the proper right waist is a patch from Heavy Attack Squadron 2 (VAH-2) nicknamed the Peacemakers of the Fleet. On the proper left waist is a patch from Attack Squadron 56 (VA-56) nicknamed the Boomerangs.
On the proper right shoulder is a triangular patch from Carrier Air Wing 9 (CVW-9). On the proper left shoulder is another triangular shaped patch from the Strike Fighter Squadron 113 (VFA-113) nicknamed the Stingers.
On the reverse of the jacket, there is a patch for Fighter Squadron 96 (VF-96) the Fighting Falcons, Fighter Squadron 92 (VF-92) Silver Kings, Reconnaissance Heavy Attack Squadron 7 (RVAH-7), and Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 1 (HC-1) Detachment Mike.
This jacket was most likely presented to Holloway upon his promotion to RADM and leaving command of USS Enterprise. The patches denote the squadrons under his command while he served as Captain of USS Enterprise from 1965-1967.
