One circular embroidered patch with scrolling ribbon embroidered below with // USS FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT // The border of circle is yellow rope with blue background. In the center of the patch is a gray and black aircraft carrier with the number 42 on both ends of the flight deck superimposed over a lit torch. Both images are inside a white outline atomic symbol.

Commissioned on 27 October 1945, USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CV-42) was the first US Navy ship to be named in honor of a US president. Originally christened as USS Coral Sea, the Secretary requested that her name be changed to honor the recently deceased President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
