One ornate brass buckle and clasp. The buckle is circular in shape with oak leaves along the rim. In the center is an eagle atop an anchor, surrounded by a ring of thirteen stars. There are two larger oak leaves stretching away from the wreath to create the belt attachment. The attaching clasp mirrors the belt attachment from the buckle with two large oak leaves at the belt attachment.
This belt buckle belonged to Rear Admiral Harry Guthrie. A 1921-A graduate of the US Naval Academy, he had a long and varied career, including developing batteries for diesel powered submarines, serving as an Assistant Naval attaché in Berlin during the 1930s, and was stationed aboard the USS Yorktown (CV-5) at the Battle of Midway. He retired from the Navy in 1950.
