# 2699. You are assigned additional duty of meeting regular troop convoys beginning with Group-40 . There will be a few fast convoys sailing irregularly at intervals not oftener than every six days escort to be provided by your force. It is assumed that French force can be counted on to provide 2 escorts each 8 days for New York,N.Y. convoy and Verdon convoy . Please consider whether increasing force will permit sailing additional convoys fromQuiberon as well as increasing protection to Verdon convoy . No further additions should be made at present to coastal escorts . It may be necessary to withdraw some of present coastal escorts . It is desirable to take H N1 convoy direct to Rochefort as general practice . H B2 convoys will probably increase in size . Department may ultimately operate(?) them every 8 days. 17407.
