HOLIDAY ROUTINE AT SEA

1. OPERATIONAL DEMANDS FREQUENTLY ENCROACH ON TIME TRADITIONALLY SET ASIDE FOR HOLIDAY ROUTINE DURING UNDERWAY PERIODS.

2. IT IS MY DESIRE TO REVERSE THE TREND IN ORDER TO PROVIDE PERSONNEL NOT ACTUALLY ON WATCH AN INCREASED OPPORTUNITY FOR WORSHIP, RECREATION AND RELAXATION DURING SUNDAYS AND HOLIDAYS. OPERATIONAL COMMANDERS ARE THEREFORE ENJOINED WHENEVER POSSIBLE TO AVOID SCHEDULING EVOLUTIONS WHICH ENCROACH UPON HOLIDAY PERIODS.

3. EXCEPTION TO THIS POLICY IS MADE FOR VITAL SIXTH AND SEVENTH FLEET OPERATIONS AND OTHER OPERATIONAL SITUATIONS WHEN DETERMINED APPROPRIATE BY COMPETENT AUTHORITY. E. R. ZUMWALT, JR., ADMIRAL, U.S. NAVY, CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS.
