TO NAVOP

UNCLAS //N01000//
LOCKERS AND WASH FACILITIES FOR PERSONNEL WHO HAVE TO WORK IN DUNGAREES ASHORE

1. I DESIRE THAT EARLIEST STEPS BE TAKEN BY COMMANDING OFFICERS OF ALL SHORE STATIONS TO PROVIDE LOCKER FACILITIES AND WASH FACILITIES AT OR CONVENIENT TO THE SITE FOR MEN WHO ARE REQUIRED TO BE ENGAGED IN DIRTY WORK WHICH SOILS THE CLOTHES AND BODY. WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF THE FLEET AND TYPE COMMANDERS AND WITH THE USE OF INITIATIVE AND SELF-HELP, IT SHOULD BE POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN MATERIALS FROM SHIPS BEING STRICKEN TO INSTALL THE NECESSARY LOCKERS AND WASH FACILITIES.

2. I EXPECT THAT EARLY POSITIVE ACTION WILL BE TAKEN IN REGARD TO THE ABOVE AND THAT FULL ASSISTANCE WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE CHIEF OF NAVAL MATERIAL TO LOCATE EQUIPMENT. E. R. ZUMWALT, JR., ADMIRAL, U.S. NAVY, CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS.
