One Type II NASA Exceptional Service medal. The planchet has a gold-wash and pierced design. The rim of the obverse planchet a relief design of a wreath with an unrolled scroll across the middle. Extending up from the bottom center of the planchet are two hands holding branches of laurel surrounding a globe. On either side of the branches are "NA/SA." The reverse of the medal reads "Exceptional Service". A small finger projection at the top center of the planchet attaches to a suspension ring. The ribbon is tapered at the suspension ring with a slip on style pin and clasp bar. The ribbon is sky blue with edge striping of yellow, navy blue, and yellow.

This prestigious NASA medal is awarded to a Government employee for sustained performance that embodies multiple contributions which contribute to NASA projects, programs, or initiatives.
